Today it is 61 years since the execution of Patrice Lumumba (Prime minister of Congo) by the Belgians.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrice_LumumbaAfter his death he was widely seen asapan-African martyr.

R to @astr0baby: This is what happens
R to @astr0baby: But decterm crashes the axpbox totally as noted here https://github.com/lenticularis39/axpbox/issues/61
Spent some time again playing with https://github.com/lenticularis39/axpbox on the M2 MacBook Air-this time clean OpenVMS 8.4-2L1 install with hobbyist license (Alpha)-axpbox simulator runningaParallels ARM64 Ubuntu 22.04 guest VM+secondary shared
Byzantine calendar's first day of the year was 1st September-are there any connections to the current school years start?Anyways-good luck to all in 2k23-we will all need it
I have noticed that on the official NetHack git repo https://github.com/NetHack/NetHack it is noted that NetHack 3.6 is not known if it builds or runs on OpenVMS 7.3 VAX-it does compile if you remove the ISAAC64 from the sources. And it runs fine
Mosaic on OpenVMS 7.3 VAX is still usable to browse the internet today :)
I migrated the OpenVMS 7.3 to the Oracle Cloud (free tier Oracle Cloud Ampere VM.Standard.A1.Flex) now it runs these systems simultaneously- NetBSD arm64 (qemu)- FreeBSD arm64 (qemu)- OpenBSD arm64 (qemu)- 4.3BSD vax (simh)- OpenVMS vax (simh)
OpenVMS 7.3 VAX is quite snappy and usable under simh-vax on the M1 MacBook Air thanks to Asahi Linux (tap0 network) and some VMS magic :)-However Im struggling with proper Xephyr X11 scaling ..
So after some more digging in the ppc assembly on AIX 7.2 here are more simplified versions of /bin/sh code via execve and system
Here is my shot on the AIX 7.2 /bin/sh assembly(compiles and works with both xlc and gcc on aix 7.2)Still learning how to simplify it more ..
Alright,Ihad to ask the "question" since there is this new AI at our disposal now
I have added the ancient 4.3BSD (VAX) to the BSD Lab, networked to the rest of the BSDs and the host.Simulation is through simh (pkgsrc build) on the Ubuntu 22.04 aarch64 paravirtualized Ampere VM.Standard.A1.Flex

Here isavideo demo of ArcaOS running in 86box on Apple silicon (M2 MacBook Air)https://youtu.be/x7vexpyRDM8
I made some mistakes during the initial ArcaOS install in the 86box-primarily because of my lack of OS/2 knowledge-after some trial/error, managed to eventually get it right-and even load the legendary IBM Doom port for OS/2
Quick note about 86box+network speeds-its better to run the -current versions https://ci.86box.net/job/86Box/ since the SLIRP network is very slow in the stable 86box (observed on my ARM64 MacOS 13 )
ArcaOS in 86box on the M2 MacBook Air running quite well
I have uploaded the NeXTSTEP i386 image+compiled DoomEd here http://astr0baby.online/NeXTSTEP/ if anybody wants to explore this significant piece of computer history-you will need 86box for this to run (runs quite well on Apple silicon)
This is fun-compiled the original source code of DoomEd on NeXTSTEP 3.3 (the one that John Romero used to build Doom levels) and loaded the Doom1.wad-Cyber Archeology in practice :)
Doom is quite snappy in the 86box NeXTSTEP simulation on the Apple M2 hardware :)
Baby steps on eComStation
eComStation 2.1 simulation on Apple Silicon using 86box
FinallyIcan run eComStation 2.1 VM on Apple Silicon machine (M2 MacBook Air) thanks to the wonderful project 86box http://86box.net/-took some tweaking and experimenting, but it finally boots and runs with network
R to @astr0baby: Or even better on EGA

Here isashort video demo of AIX 4.3 on the PinePhone so you get the idea how it works and behaveshttps://youtu.be/jGEP5DQLFhQ
R to @astr0baby: Whats nice is that you getafull touch screen desktop for CDE instead ofamouse ... and surprisingly it works quite well over Xephyr on the PostmarketOS as long as you match the X11 screen resolution to the actual display
Tried working with the mobile AIX 4.3alittle ... and it looks to me that CDE was way ahead of itself back then :D Never imaginedIwould be working in CDE onamobile phone ... elinks for browsing the internet ... standard (but older) and older GCC 3.
Took some tweaking, but finally its here-AIX 4.3/5.1 ppc running on the PinePhone+PineKeyboard and with full X11 CDE over Xephyr (had to use older Xephyr build since new one does not support /dev/input)-AIX is running in qemu-system-ppc on the Pine
